International Prevention/Policy Program
Overview
This program fosters research approaches that are collaborative, with particular emphasis on engaging the research community in the region of interest in planning and implementing the research effort. The program supports advances in study design at all levels of human relationship and organizational complexity, and encourages the development and use of multi-level interventions. It supports prevention studies that evaluate the determinants of behavior change and develop brief programs for use in STD clinics and vaccine trials.
Areas of Emphasis
- Test feasibility and effectiveness of voluntary counseling and testing for couples.
- Assess the role of gender, power, violence, and discrimination in the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
- Study and/or test how new economic opportunities to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
- Assess the role of community, society (media, policy) and technological developments such as the Internet, in preventing and adapting to HIV/AIDS.
- Test the effectiveness of the integration of prevention and care programs, especially adherence programs, and the development of sustainable programs for diverse cultural and geographical settings.
