NIMH Twitter Chat on Binge Eating Disorder

Live Chat

NIMH Twitter Chat

It is normal to overeat occasionally, such as on vacation or during the holidays. However, if you frequently feel a loss of control when eating, then you may have binge eating disorder (BED). In the U.S., BED is the most common eating disorder. Periods of binge eating are not followed by purging, excessive exercise, or fasting. As a result, people with BED often are over-weight or obese.

Please join the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week on Monday, February 23, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EST for a Twitter chat on BED. NIMH grantee Cynthia Bulik, Ph.D., will be joining the discussion and answering your related questions. Dr. Bulik is Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Founding Director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. Dr. Bulik is also Professor of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

Please use the hashtag #NIMHchats to follow and participate in the conversation on BED. To ask questions, you must have a Twitter account. If you prefer to simply observe the chat taking place, you may do so at twubs.com and view the conversation in real-time. An archive of the chat will be posted on NIMH’s website following the event.

If you have any questions, please email NIMHpress@mail.nih.gov. See you on Twitter!
