Job Vacancy Announcement - Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) Division of Translational Research

The Division of Translational Research (DTR) at NIMH directs, plans, and supports programs of research and research training that translate knowledge from basic science to discover the etiology, pathophysiology, and trajectory of mental disorders and develop effective interventions for children and adults. The Division is looking for motivated individuals to serve as a Program Officer at its Rockville, MD site to guide research training programs for the developmental training portfolio within the Office of Research Training and Career Development. The Office fosters the training of new investigators and enhances the career development of translational and clinical scientists focused on child and adolescent research.

The Program Officer serves as a program expert for the education and research training of individuals in mental health-related translational and clinical research in child and adolescent populations, stimulating and fostering highly qualified and productive research investigators in fields relevant to the advancement of mental health research. The program officer provides professional guidance in all aspects of research training in the domain of DTR-supported research. Responsibilities will include administering and managing an extramural portfolio of fellowships, mentored career awards, research education, and institutional research training grants; interacting and collaborating with researchers in the scientific community and program officers at NIMH, NIH, and other federal agencies; and developing new funding opportunities.

This position requires working both independently and collaboratively and offers opportunities to impact priorities, develop new initiatives, and contribute to the advancement of a national program of research. Strong organizational, oral, written, and communication skills are required. Salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. The successful candidate is subject to a background investigation and public financial disclosure requirements.


Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and have an M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an accredited college university, including acceptance of the dissertation, in an academic field of the health or pertinent sciences allied to health or health-related research.
