The Division of AIDS Research and the Center for Global Mental Health Research at the National Institute of Mental Health provide support for research programs in the areas of basic behavioral and neuroscience of HIV/AIDS and global mental health, also including research training, resource development, and research dissemination. The Division is looking for motivated individuals to serve as a Program Officer at its Rockville, MD, site to participate in program development and management of research targeting the Division and Center priorities. Also included is participation in the Office of Research Training and Career Development. This Office fosters the training of new investigators and enhances the career development of scientists by administering a national program that consists of approximately 300 funded individual fellowship, career development, research education, and institutional research training grants.
The Program Officer within the Office of Research Training and Career Development serves as a program expert for the education and research training of individuals in basic behavioral and neuroscience of HIV/AIDS and global mental health, stimulating and fostering highly qualified and productive research investigators in fields relevant to the advancement of the scientific priorities supported by the Division, providing professional guidance in all aspects of research training of researchers. Responsibilities will include administering and managing an extramural portfolio of fellowship awards, interacting and collaborating with researchers in the scientific community and program officers at NIMH, NIH, and other federal agencies, and developing new funding opportunities.
The Program Officer will also participate in the development and management of a portfolio of research designed to promote a better understanding of the biological and behavioral factors, including mental health factors, that impact HIV transmission and the consequences of living with HIV.
This position requires working both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational, oral, written and communication skills are also required. Salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate.
