Program Overview

The NIMH Office of Management (OM) provides strategic leadership, direction, oversight and consultation on the business and management operations in support of the Institute’s scientific mission. This position is located in the Office of the Executive Officer in the OM.

Position Duties

The Operations Coordinator will manage the day-to-day office operations, including, organization and prioritization of tasks, answering and redirecting phone calls from senior NIMH, NIH and external governmental offices and agencies; respond to written communications. Maintain and update Executive Office staff calendars; schedule appointments, meetings, conference calls and travel; provide background information; communicate with participants regarding agenda. The selectee will arrange for Executive Office staff to represent organization at conferences and meetings, establish appointment priorities, or reschedule or refuse appointments or invitations. In the executive level’s absence ensure that requests for action or information are relayed to the appropriate staff; decide whether executive level should be notified of important or emergency issues.


This position requires working both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills are required. Candidates must have a minimum of nine (9) years of experience providing executive level administrative support and possess excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills and attention to detail. Expertise in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint) is a must.

The Operations Coordinator will be selected at a salary commensurate with their qualifications and experience. In addition, full benefits, including leave, health and life insurance may be provided.
