The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Staff Scientist position within the Human Genetics Branch of the Intramural Research Program, Section on the Genetic Basis of Mood & Anxiety Disorders. The Section comprises a multi-disciplinary team focused on discovering and characterizing genes that contribute to the risk for mood and anxiety disorders. Ongoing research emphasizes identification of risk alleles and how risk alleles shape clinical phenotypes, treatment outcomes, and gene expression.

All candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in statistical genetics, computational genomics, or related fields, and at least two years’ relevant experience. Proficiency in R and with scripting languages such as Python or Perl is essential. Successful candidates should possess the ability to effectively communicate research ideas, methods, and results. Peer-reviewed publications involving study of human complex traits, including genome-wide association studies, rare variant analyses, or genetic simulation studies, is desirable. The staff scientist is expected to be a key member of the Section, contributing to the design of new studies, development of analytical methods, and mentoring of fellows.
