The main Milken Institute School of Public Health building is located at 950 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, on Washington Circle in Washington, D.C. in the Foggy Bottom campus.

Driving Directions

From Interstate 270 Spur:

  • Use the left lane to stay on I-270 S toward Washington.
  • Take the exit toward Interstate 495 S/North Virginia/Washington - Continue onto I-270 Spur S.
  • Merge onto I-495 S.
  • Take exit 40 for Cabin John Pkwy toward Glen Echo.
  • Merge onto Clara Barton Pkwy (Parts of this road may be closed at certain times or days).
  • Continue onto Canal Rd NW (Parts of this road may be closed at certain times or days).
  • Use the right 2 lanes to turn slightly right onto US-29 N/Whitehurst Fwy NW
  • Keep right to continue on K St NW.
  • At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto New Hampshire Ave NW.

From Interstate 66 East:

  • Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 64A to merge onto I-495 S toward Richmond.
  • Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 50 A-B to merge onto US-50 E/Arlington Blvd toward Arlington.
  • Keep left at the fork, follow signs for US 50 E/Washington and merge onto I-66 E/US-50 E.
  • Use the left lane to take the Interstate 66 E exit toward E St.
  • Keep left, follow signs for Whitehurst Fwy.
  • Continue onto I-66 E.
  • Use the left 2 lanes to take the exit toward Rock Creek Pkwy.
  • Use any lane to turn left onto 27th St NW (signs for Kennedy Centre).
  • Turn left onto Virginia Ave NW.
  • At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto New Hampshire Ave NW.

From I-95 South / I-495 S / Capital Beltway:

  • Take the Balt Wash Pkwy S exit, EXIT 22B, toward South Washington.
  • Merge onto MD295 S / Baltimore Washington Pkwy S.
  • Merge onto US50 W toward Washington.
  • Stay straight to go onto New York Ave NW.
  • Take the 1st right onto 7th St NW.
  • Take the 1st left onto L St NW.
  • Take the 1st left onto 9th St NW.
  • Turn right onto K St NW.
  • Stay straight to go onto US29 S / K St NW.
  • Keep right at the fork to go on K St NW.
  • Enter next roundabout and take the 4th exit onto New Hampshire Ave NW.
  • 950 NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE NW is on the right.

Parking

Parking Services maintains university garages and lots serving the GW community of faculty, staff, visitors and patients. View campus parking options. In Foggy Bottom, there are several private parking garages near the school. Street parking is limited and parking garages can be quite expensive.

Public Transportation

Metrorail

The nearest Metrorail station is Foggy Bottom – GWU (Blue, Silver and Orange Lines), located one block away on 23rd and I Street, NW.

You then must walk 0.1 miles to the Milken Institute:

    • Go North on 23rd Street toward Washington Circle.
    • Enter roundabout toward New Hampshire Ave.
    • Head South on New Hampshire.

Taxis

D.C. taxi fare calculator: Each fare starts with a base charge of about $3.25. Total distance traveled is charged at around $2.16 per mile. The traffic wait time rate is $25 per hour, or about $2 every 5 minutes. Riders pay 50 cents to a dollar for each extra piece of luggage. An extra-passenger incurs a fee of about $1.50 to $2.50 for each passenger. A maximum of four passengers can ride in a four- passenger taxicab or five passengers in a five passenger taxicab.

Amtrak and Maryland Rail Commuter Service (MARC) trains arrive at Union Station. Union Station is 3.0 miles from the meeting site and about $19 taxi fare.

From Union Station, you can take the Metrorail Red Line to the Metro Center Station and connect to the Orange & Blue Lines, which will take you to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station (closest station to the workshop site).

Hotels

Note to Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) Invitees: A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for you at the Washington Plaza Hotel. If you require a hotel room, email your desired check-in and check-out dates to events@grandchallenges.ca. The GCC Events team will reserve a room for you on a first come, first served basis. If you are a GCC staff member or grantee, you must follow this process (please do not book accommodation at any other hotel for this meeting).
