NIMH Reddit “Ask Me Anything” with Dr. Jane Pearson – Suicide Prevention
In observance of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Dr. Jane Pearson will participate in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) event on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Dr. Pearson is the chair of the Suicide Research Consortium in the Division of Services and Intervention Research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). During the event, Dr. Pearson will answer questions from the public about the latest suicide prevention research.
Reddit is a collection of online message boards where people can hold discussions. The website is composed of a large number of “subreddits” focused on particular themes. The host of this AMA, for example, is the “Ask Science” subreddit (r/askscience). Through a Reddit account, you can post your thoughts or questions to the discussion page. Reddit users can also “upvote” specific comments or questions they find particularly interesting, causing them to rise to the top of the message board. In this way, the best contributions to the conversation become the most visible.
Participating in a Reddit AMA is easy.
The AMA page will go live between 7:00 and 8:00 AM EST on September 5, 2019, at which point Reddit users can begin asking questions and posting comments on the AMA page. To ask a question or post a comment, you must have a Reddit account, but you do not need a Reddit account to follow the discussion. To view the AMA page or participate in the discussion, go to the Ask Science subreddit at https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/. You can view and comment on the AMA page after the event has concluded, but Dr. Pearson will only be answering questions from 12:00―2:00 PM EST on the day of the event.
