Twitter Chat on Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder and Severe Irritability

Live Chat

Time: 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET
Hashtag: #NIMHchats

If your child displays extreme irritability, anger, and frequent, intense temper outbursts, they may benefit from being screened for disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD). DMDD symptoms go beyond being a “moody” child—children with DMDD experience severe impairment that requires clinical attention.

In recognition of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, NIMH is hosting a Twitter chat on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 12-1 p.m. ET to discuss the symptoms and treatments for DMDD and severe irritability. DMDD is a fairly new diagnosis, but symptoms of DMDD typically begin before the age of 10 and the diagnosis is not given to children under 6 or adolescents over 18. NIMH expert Ellen Leibenluft, M.D., Chief of the Section on Bipolar Spectrum Disorders, will be on hand to answer your questions related to DMDD.

Please follow our tweets on NIMH’s Twitter page . To ask questions, you must have a Twitter account and include the hashtag #NIMHchats  in every tweet.

If you have any questions, please email NIMHpress@nih.gov. See you on Twitter!
