RDoC Principal Investigators’ Meeting

Date

October 17–18, 2016

Location

Bethesda, MD

The NIMH Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) Unit hosted a meeting to mark the fifth anniversary of the first RDoC funding announcement. The meeting brought together NIMH staff and the principal investigators of R01 grants funded under the first two RDoC funding announcements. Attendees came together to collaborate and to discuss their methodologies, lessons learned, and the future of RDoC. Presentations featured innovative approaches to recruitment of research participants with symptoms that span a range of severity, novel methods to parse out heterogeneity in patient groups, and integrative methods for analyzing different types of data.

More than 40 grants have been funded under RDoC-specific funding announcements. Investigator-initiated applications also increasingly incorporate RDoC principles, with program staff estimating that approximately half of the funded grants in the translational division incorporate various aspects of the RDoC framework.
