Jan Willem (Johan) van der Veen, PhD

Dr Jan Willem van der Veen is a staff scientist in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Core, National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He received his PhD in Applied Physics in 1992 at the University of Technology in Delft (TUD), The Netherlands. His PhD thesis was on Sodium Spectroscopy (23Na) in vivo. After his PhD thesis he was a PostDoc for three years at the University of Alabama in the Cardiology Department, with his main interest in Phosphorous (31P) spectroscopy in heart transplant patients and functional imaging. This led to first a PostDoc and then a Staff Scientist position at the NIH. At the NIH he continued his spectroscopy work in proton (1H) spectroscopic imaging of cancer, MS, and mental disorder patients.
