Program Overview
The Office of Clinical Research at the National Institute of Mental Health is recruiting a Health Science Policy Analyst/Social Science Policy Analyst in the Office of Clinical Research’s Human Research Protection Branch (HRPB) at its North Bethesda, MD site. The Branch provides leadership in planning the conduct of human subjects research within the NIMH; serves as human subjects research regulatory compliance experts for NIMH and provides educational guidance to extramural-funded study teams; serves as data and safety monitoring board experts for NIMH; manages and coordinates the NIMH-constituted Data and Safety Monitoring Boards; provides educational guidance to extramural-funded study teams; and serves as the central coordination point for the areas of human subject protection and reportable events.
Responsibilities include reviewing grant applications and research studies to ensure appropriate human subject protections; evaluating data and safety monitoring and human research protection across the extramural NIMH clinical trial and human subjects research portfolio; evaluating reportable events in active research studies; serving as a scientific administrator of NIMH-constituted Data and Safety Monitoring Boards; and serving as an expert data and safety monitoring and human research protection resource for the NIMH. This position requires working both independently and collaboratively and offers opportunities to impact priorities, develop new initiatives, and contribute to the advancement of the office mission.
Qualifications
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen possess a bachelor’s degree, or graduate/higher level degree, with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. Strong organizational, oral, written, and communication skills are required. Successful candidates will have specialized knowledge of mental health clinical research, federal regulations, and policies related to research with human subjects from extensive experience in the clinical research. The ideal candidate should also have experience with circumstances and events that require application of professional judgement. Successful candidates are subject to a background check.
