Dr. Arash Afraz

Dr. Arash Afraz received his MD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2003 and his PhD in Psychology from Harvard University in 2009. He then moved to DiCarlo lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a postdoctoral fellow and continued his research on object recognition. Dr. Afraz joined NIMH as a principal investigator in 2017; he is currently leading the Unit on Neurons, Circuits and Behavior at NIMH. The main focus of the lab is uncovering the causal links between the neural activity in the ventral stream of the visual pathway and object recognition behavior.
