Research

The Office of the Clinical Director (OCD) staff conducts clinical research through active collaborations with investigators from other NIH Institutes as well as with national and international research groups. These relationships across Institutes are leveraged to jointly investigate clinical research questions that lie at the interface of psychiatry and medicine.

Examples include:

  1. Developing suicide risk screening tools for use in medical settings
  2. Development of an electronic platform for psychosocial screening of medically ill children and adolescents
  3. Describing neuropsychiatric and neurocognitive findings associated with rare conditions such as methylmalonic acidemia or Phelan-McDermid syndrome
  4. Developing Electrophysiology Sleep Phenotyping to evaluate neurodevelopmental trajectories
  5. Studying the mental health and characteristics and experiences of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection in comparison to controls
  6. Examining to the role of anxiety in patients with allergic reaction to the COVID vaccine
  7. Mental health characteristics of patients with movement disorders before and after deep brain stimulation surgery
