Here at the Unit on Neurons, Circuits, and Behavior (UNCB), we utilize cutting-edge methodologies such as optogenetics, drug microinjections, and machine learning in order to understand the mechanistic underpinnings of vision as a behavior. From a theoretical point of view, our work aims at bridging the causal gap between neural activity in high-level visual cortical areas and visual perception. From a translational viewpoint, our work provides the building blocks for developing visual prosthetics for patients with severe visual impairment.
