Research Interests

Soohyun received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied motor modulation of cortico-thalamic circuits in the rodent somatosensory system under the mentorship of Dr. Dan Simons. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at New York University with Drs. Bernardo Rudy and Gord Fishell, focusing on the diversity and functional circuit organization of neocortical GABAergic neurons. In fall 2016, Soohyun joined the National Institute of Mental Health as a Principal Investigator. She is currently a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Section on Functional Neural Circuits at NIMH, where her lab explores how long-range corticocortical circuits are built, what they compute, how they adapt, and how their dysfunction gives rise to altered perception and behavior using diverse animal models.
