Innovative Measures of Medication Adherence for HIV Treatment and Prevention

Location: Rockville, MD

The NIMH Division of AIDS Research co-sponsored a meeting with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to advance the next-generation of HIV medication adherence. The meeting convened eleven research teams that are working to develop and validate innovative assessments of oral antiretroviral medication adherence under a recent NIMH-NIAID collaborative request for applications (RFA-AI-14-071). The meeting highlighted novel drug assays, pill ingestion sensors, and wireless technologies that provide real-time and point-of-care adherence assessments. Meeting discussions centered on opportunities for collaboration and harmonization, and charting the path for regulatory approval and clinical use.
