Denis Matrov received all his tertiary degrees in psychology from the University of Tartu in Estonia. His doctoral studies were done in the lab of professor Jaanus Harro. There he studied brain oxidative metabolism in rodent models of anxiety and mood disorders. During his post-doctoral studies Denis has worked in the labs of professors Jon Kaas (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA), Miguel Nicolelis (Natal, Brazil), and Tadashi Isa (Kyoto University, Japan).

Denis joined the Chudasama lab at NIMH in January 2021 as staff scientist. His primary research interests are organization of behavior and neural circuitry in common marmoset. Denis is using various research methods to uncover the links between the brain organization and behavior such as behavioral testing, brain imaging, viral tract-tracing, and optogenetics. In his free time Denis goes for long walks, listens to economics podcasts, enjoys music and world cinema. He procrastinates by playing chess on the internet.
